Michigan marijuana authorities are recalling cannabis products from stores

The Michigan Marijuana Regulator has issued a recall on marijuana products that have been tested by testing facilities in the past few months. This affects more than 400 retail outlets across the state. The agency said Wednesday it had found "inaccurate and / or unreliable results" from the products tested by Viridis Laboratories and Viridis North.

The recall covers all products tested between August 10th and November 16th, as well as marijuana concentrate products that can be inhaled, such as vape carts, live resin and distillate.

The regulators said that immunocompromised or lung ill customers who consume the "potentially harmful products" are most at risk of suffering health consequences, such as the infection aspergillosis, which is usually caused by inhalation of mold. Those who experience adverse reactions after consuming the recalled products are requested to report this to the authorities.

Government regulators advise buyers of recalled products to return them to the place of purchase. In the meantime, sellers with potentially endangered goods are advised to either destroy them and provide evidence to the regulator, have them retested, or return them to the original licensee.

The Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency is actively investigating the situation, and Viridis Laboratories said it is "fully cooperating" with the agency.

"Although we do not agree with this decision and stand firmly by our test results, we cooperate fully with the MRA and work closely with our customers to minimize interruptions and test the affected products again free of charge," said the CEO of the Company, Greg Michaud, in a statement to CBS News.

"We look forward to continuing to serve our great customers with the best and most cutting-edge scientific methods so that we can fulfill our mission of promoting the health and safety of adult patients and consumers," he added.

In 2018 Michigan became the first state in the Midwest and the tenth in the nation to legalize recreational marijuana. The law allows people 21 and older in this state to keep up to 10 ounces of marijuana at home and 2.5 ounces in public, and grow 12 marijuana plants for personal home use.
