Halloween: Spending more on cannabis than candy
$ 182.7 million in sales for pleasure and medicinal purposes

Happy Halloween herb!
A new report shows that the average American spent $ 77.17 on cannabis products this past Halloween weekend, more than what they spent on costumes and candy combined.
According to Akerna, a publicly traded data and technology company, adult cannabis users spent an average of $ 77.17 per person on cannabis products over the Halloween weekend. According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), the average American spent about $ 30.40 on Halloween candy and $ 33.59 on costumes this year, for a total of $ 63.99.
"From the annual spends in spending to comparing the costumes and candy, it's clear Americans are choosing to celebrate the holidays with cannabis," said James Ahrendt, business intelligence architect at Akerna.
From what you hear, Halloween 2021 was plentiful. This weekend, sales of adult and medicinal cannabis were $ 182.7 million, up 8.2 percent year over year.
Friday, October 29th, was the busiest day in terms of revenue, with $ 81.5 million in consumer spending, making it the industry's ninth largest day of sales in 2021.
"Once again, our data shows that when the holidays fall on a weekend, pharmacies and retailers have the highest sales and visitor numbers on the Friday of that weekend," said Ahrendt.
That bodes well for Christmas, which falls on a Saturday this year.
