High-Grade Gold Near Surface Sharpens Emperor Metals’ Open-Pit Blueprint
New high-grade drill intercepts under 100 metres depth strengthen the commercial case for a low-strip, rapid-payback Phase 1 starter pit in Quebec's Abitibi belt.

Pulling high-grade gold from deep subterranean shoots is an Abitibi tradition, but hitting thick, multi-gram gold runs barely beneath the moss is what turns routine exploration into an accelerated mine plan.
That is precisely the scenario unfolding in Quebec’s historic Duparquet mining camp, where Emperor Metals Inc. (CSE: AUOZ / OTCQB: EMAUF) has reported a cluster of shallow, high-grade gold intercepts at its flagship Duquesne West Project.
Leading the latest batch of six drillholes is hole DQ26-61, which intercepted 24.8 metres grading 7.0 g/t gold from a vertical depth of approximately 85 metres. Tucked within that wide envelope were multiple bonanza-grade pulses, including separate one-metre intervals returning 32.4 g/t, 25.1 g/t, and 17.6 g/t gold. A stone's throw away, hole DQ26-57 pierced 8.4 metres averaging 8.7 g/t gold from just 41 metres vertical depth, turbocharged by a one-metre hit running 59.8 g/t gold.
The consistency extends laterally across the target area. Hole DQ26-63 returned 18.9 metres at 4.0 g/t gold from roughly 100 metres depth, highlighted by a one-metre section of 21.5 g/t gold. Hole DQ26-59 tagged 8.6 metres at 6.1 g/t gold from 46 metres depth, while hole DQ26-62 confirmed near-surface bulk width with 11.4 metres grading 2.6 g/t gold starting at 57 metres down. Hole DQ26-41 rounded out the group with 5.7 metres of 0.5 g/t gold in broader halo mineralization.
For open-pit mining economics, depth is destiny, and shallower is always friendlier on capital expenditure. Duquesne West features overburden ranging between zero and five metres, meaning mineralization sits virtually at grass roots. This structural setup directly fuels the strategy outlined by Emperor Metals: establish a low-strip Phase 1 open starter pit to accelerate capital payback and generate early cash flow, before transitioning into a broader open pit and underground operation.
Chief Executive Officer John Florek noted that multiple mineralized lenses appear to converge near surface, reinforcing both continuity and commercial flexibility. The increased thickness and grade encountered immediately below the shallowest intercepts also hint that the conceptual Phase 1 pit could be pushed deeper than initial models anticipated, swallowing higher-grade ounces early in the project life.
Underpinning the drilling success is an AI-assisted 3D geological model that reinterprets decades of data across the property, where more than 142,000 metres of drilling have taken place since the 1930s. By pinpointing where key structural controls cross paths, the model has uncovered thick, high-grade dilation zones that historic operators missed. The ongoing presence of abundant free gold throughout the deposit adds another layer of metallurgical appeal.
Duquesne West currently hosts an updated inferred mineral resource estimate of 26.9 million tonnes at 1.69 g/t gold, representing 1.46 million ounces. Emperor Metals Inc. (CSE: AUOZ / OTCQB: EMAUF) holds an option to acquire a 100% interest in the 1,389-hectare claim package from Duparquet Assets Ltd., a company 50% owned by Globex Mining Enterprises Inc. (TSX: GMX).
Assays have now been released for 55 of the 66 drillholes completed in the current campaign, leaving 11 holes pending to sustain exploration momentum. With drilling already resumed for a fully funded follow-up program of 3,000 to 5,000 metres, alongside planned surface stripping to expose the bedrock for structural mapping, the company is assembling the technical foundation required for an updated NI 43-101 resource estimate and a subsequent Preliminary Economic Assessment.
