"We are open to business"
New Mexico continues to prepare for a potentially explosive development in the recreational marijuana industry

Companies interested in becoming New Mexico state licensed marijuana producers can apply now. The move comes a day after New Mexico released final rules for cannabis producers. On Wednesday, the Cannabis Control Division announced that interested parties can now use an online application portal to start the process. "We're open to business," said Linda Trujillo, director of regulation and licensing, in a press release. "Starting today, companies and entrepreneurs can use our streamlined online system to submit their applications to be a producer in New Mexico's growing cannabis industry." "The Cannabis Control Division is committed to promoting the adult cannabis industry and maintaining our nationally recognized medical cannabis program in a way that supports businesses, consumers and communities," said Trujillo. "The CCD has invested time and resources in developing an easy-to-use application system so that producers can get started faster. And for the safety of consumers and workers, our robust accountability protocols will ensure licensees stay compliant." The portal was launched before the stipulated September 1 deadline, on which the supervisory authorities must begin accepting applications. After an application is submitted, the authorities have 90 days to make a decision. "The Cannabis Control Department is committed to making the licensing process as simple as possible while complying with the law and ensuring the integrity of the cannabis industry in New Mexico," said Trujillo. "We look forward to working with licensees to build an industry we can all be proud of."
