Pfizer will be producing Covid vaccine more efficiently
An updated production process could double the outcome of doses.

Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) announces significant improvements in production efficiency. The company expects to nearly double coronavirus vaccine production by shortening the cycle from the current 110 days to 60 days. Pfizer's ramp up of vaccine production will help overcome the bottlenecks and bring more vaccines to people across the country to protect themselves from the deadly coronavirus. Pfizer's vice president (sterile injectables operations), Chaz Calitri, who runs the Kalamazoo, Michigan facility, said it will be called Project Light Speed and production will increase in January 2021. The President (IP (Immunization Policy) and Vaccine Production Consulting Company's knowledge translation) Robert Van Exan said Pfizer's increase in production is well planned to alleviate the vaccine shortage in the nation. He went on to say that no other company can produce vaccines at this rate. Pfizer manufactures vaccines at its three plants in Andover, Massachusetts, Chesterfield, Missouri, and Kalamazoo, Michigan to meet growing demand and increase profits. The company shipped 20.6 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for administration across the country. According to Calitri, engineers at Pfizer were working at lightning speed to ramp up vaccine production - unlike other companies that take years to develop and commercialize. The first trial of the vaccine lasted 16 days and was gradually reduced to 9 days. Despite the increase in production, the company adheres to FDA regulations. It uses best manufacturing practices and ensures expedited testing and quality control in vaccine production. Pfizer is also adding additional production lines at its three plants to further increase production of the vaccine. The Kalamazoo plant plays an important role in increasing production. The company has already shipped around 60 million doses of the vaccine after starting production in March 2020. According to a study by Pfizer, its vaccine is even effective against the mutated coronavirus, which is initially being discovered in South Africa and the UK. In the United States, coronavirus variants rose 73 percent in the past week, with Florida recording the most cases. According to the latest reports, 944 cases of new variants have been reported in the US that can spread faster and more easily.
