Dan Schulman, CEO of PayPal, has the ambition to make PayPal the next financial super app in the world, similar to WeChat Pay and Alipay, the China-based payment apps. He went on to say that very few companies in the world have the vision to achieve this goal. You need skills to move from technology to shopping to financial services and payments. With several people working from home because of the ongoing coronavirus, the demand for online payments increased many times over. This helped the payment giant generate $ 21.5 billion in revenue as consumers increased their online spending by 31%. PayPal increased its user base by 72.7 million over the year. It is the speed at which its processing mechanisms operate that keeps Paypal in the driver's seat and dwarfs other payment competitors like MasterCard Inc and Visa Inc. The company also outpaced the competition from Apple Inc. According to a survey conducted by Pymnts last year, PayPal's checkout button added three-quarters of the top retail websites in the US, keeping it in a dominant position. Paypal strives to become a one-stop shop for merchants and consumers alike. Its product line now includes bill payments, high yield savings accounts, check cashing services and stock trading. It will be making changes to its digital wallet to offer purchases and payments in separate tabs. Schulman said the company plans to add innovative features to its financial services soon as well. In a post-Investors Day interview, Schulman said the company is putting a lot of organic efforts into leveraging its product capabilities and platform to drive sales. The payment giant is also looking to make acquisitions to enhance its product range and increase earnings. PayPal is already reaping abundant fruits from its recent introduction of making it easier for individuals to sell and buy cryptocurrencies.
