Newmont is putting up half a billion dollar against climate change
The mining giant aims to sponsor initiatives that target climate change.

Newmont announced that it will invest $ 500 million in climate change initiatives over the next five years, 2021-2025. Newmont recently committed to achieving an industry-leading climate goal of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 30% by 2030 with a goal of becoming net carbon free by 2050. According to the company’s statement, this investment will help identify and build the pathways necessary to meet our GHG emissions reduction goals through the use of a variety of technologies, including renewable energy, electrification, fuel switching and carbon capture. These avenues will include exploration projects such as testing new technologies, investing in renewable energies and improving energy storage in microgrids. Newmont is also implementing a new energy and climate investment standard to drive energy efficiency improvements, formalize the incorporation of microgrid technologies, and incorporate energy metrics into our process control systems. Newmont is the world's leading gold company and a producer of copper, silver, zinc and lead. The company's world-class portfolio is anchored in low-cost mining regions in North America, South America, Australia and Africa. Newmont is the only gold producer listed in the S&P 500 index. Newmont was founded in 1921 and has been publicly traded since 1925.
