Is a third world war with millions of victims looming?
Ukraine president warns at Munich security conference

Speakers at the Munich Security Conference, which began yesterday (Friday), focused on the Ukraine crisis. Borders should not be moved by force, says U.S. vice president. China's foreign minister sees Ukraine as a "bridge between East and West." Ukraine President Voldymyr Selenskyj found the most drastic words: "It is too late to talk about repair. It's high time for a new security architecture - before we have to pay with millions of victims, and without a third world war."
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock also warned. "This is one of the most dangerous moments in which we are witnessing an escalation through provocation and disinformation," she said. "A new war is threatening to break out in the middle of our Europe."
Russia has not been a guest at the security conference in more than three decades. A reaction from the Kremlin to the speeches during the conference has been a long time coming, but the first critical sentiments have already been published on RT Deutsch. An article published today is titled "Selensky paints himself a world in Munich." In a commentary, the Russian medium also commented on the shelling of a kindergarten in Ukraine, which was referred to many times in Munich; "A rogue who thinks evil of it," it says.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz described the situation as dramatic: "War is threatening again in Europe. And the risk is anything but averted," he said in his speech. Other challenges, such as the pandemic or climate change, fell behind at the moment. He warned Moscow once again of the consequences of an attack on Ukraine. "Any further violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity will have high costs for Russia."
