Companies can now apply for cannabis production licenses in Georgia
Legalisation in the state has reached a new climax.

Medical cannabis is slowly but surely coming to the state of Georgia, little by little. The state is now accepting applications for those who want to manufacture cannabis. That means those in need of medicinal cannabis oil that is legal in that state can actually get it within state lines. It's a long time coming as it has been five years since medical cannabis oil treatment was legalized in the state by the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission. There are currently about 14,000 registered patients in the state hoping to use medicinal cannabis oil for treatment, but so far they have had to leave the state to do so. While medical cannabis use was legalized in certain cases in 2015, the sale of legal cannabis was only legalized last year, and due to COVID delays, the industry is only now beginning. As of now, those interested in becoming a manufacturer have until December 28th to apply for one of the first licenses in the Georgian cannabis industry. Licenses will be granted in March if everything goes according to plan, but it could be six months to a year before cannabis is actually available to patients. "I think this is the first step towards a really big economic development opportunity with a focus on developing Georgian business and small businesses," said Andrew Turnage, the Commission's Executive Director. "The Commission is working very hard to move this process forward every single day. Since the sale and production of cannabis was legalized a year ago, the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission has met and a plan for its distribution, testing, oversight and licensing drafted to the companies that want to join the industry and sell cannabis oil.
