American Express integrates an instant PayPal option into its credit cards

American Express Company (NYSE: AXP) is rolling out a feature that will allow customers to start shopping immediately with an approved card as Americans increasingly seek fast service across all industries. Customers will not need a physical card to add an Instant Card number to their digital wallet or to make instant online purchases. A survey found that 60% of eligible Amex cardholders would like to have the instant card number once the company approves their application. A representative for the company said the survey suggests that most consumers are looking for quick payment alternatives as online shopping continues to surge. The main benefit is the inclusion of PayPal in the program, which accepts the instant card numbers when members shop online. This enables consumers to take advantage of American Express membership immediately. Likewise, buyers can connect their Amex cards to Google Pay, Apple Pay, Fitbit Pay and Samsung Pay. The instant card feature is one of the notable updates Amex has made in response to evolving consumer needs. Earlier this year, following the reintroduction of the Rosegold card, Rachel Stocks, the company's EVP Global Premium Products and Benefits, said the company will continue to develop its card portfolio and find ways to meet customer needs. Stocks had previously indicated that the company's approach is to listen to its card members and regularly evolve offerings and cards to ensure that Amex engages and supports them in key segments. She said the company saw a shift in the spending behavior of its card members at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the company has listened to the needs of customers. It has been rapidly adapting its products and services to support their home lifestyle, including introducing new offerings in Business Essentials, Groceries, and Streaming & Wireless.
