Verizon has invested more than one billion USD for 5G development

The Federal Communications Commission announced the winners of an auction for warrants on an estimated spectrum that is particularly beneficial for 5G. Verizon Wireless is by far the largest funder. Second was Dish, which spent over $ 912 million. Cox, Charter, and Comcast Corporation (Nasdaq: CMCSA) also spent millions of dollars. The companies spent a lot on this auction because the band in the 3.5 gigahertz spectrum can be used for higher 5G placements. Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) found itself in a particularly difficult situation: Their 5G strategy so far depended heavily on millimeter wave placements. These provide high speed networks, but they only work in very small arrays - so it doesn't work like a national plan. The mid-band spectrum Verizon received from the auction will help them install high-speed networks that could have long range (although not as large as the band is used for the long-term evolution). Dish has acquired frequencies over the years, but needs to place the spectrum as a final step towards use. The company acquired assets from Sprint (as part of its dealings with T-Mobile) and it is on its way to releasing what it claims to be a national cellular service. It's not clear what Cox, Charter, and Comcast are up to with their spectrum, but there are a variety of options. Comcast and Comcast provide cellular networks; however, they piggyback on gigantic services. The mid-band spectrum could also be equipped for wireless home network service. T-Mobile Us Inc. (NASDAQ: TMUS) has been rapidly expanding its 5G service, and as of July, AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) has claimed that its 5G service is available nationwide. While T-Mobile is not in a good position thanks to Sprint's cache of the mid-band spectrum, the company used to have to place large bids to get closer to the airspace race. They spent nearly $ 8 billion in 2017 to make their Long-Term Evolution network big.
