UK police finds weed plants in former night club
Three men have been jailed in connection with the incident.

After discovering an "industrial," three story weed growing in an abandoned U.K. Nightclub last October, the National Crime Agency (NCA) says three foreign nationals were sentenced to prison terms. A statement released on Tuesday stated that police and NCA officials raided the former Coventry nightclub on October 15, 2020. It took a breakthrough through reinforced doors to get to approximately 1,500 cannabis plants valued at over 1 million pounds (CAN $ 1.7 million) spread throughout the building, along with approximately 150,000 pounds of "more sophisticated" " Equipment. Albanian citizens Andi Cani, 24, and Adrian Lleshaj, 29, and Vietnamese citizen Cao Van Vu, 31, were arrested. "These men were involved in the production of cannabis on an industrial scale. It is certainly the largest and most sophisticated cannabis factory the NCA has ever found," said department head Mick Pope in a statement. Cani and Lleshaj tried to hide on the roof of the building during the raid, but were later caught using a police drone. When interviewing NCA investigators, all three men said they paid to be smuggled into the country. The three pleaded guilty to manufacturing a controlled drug and were convicted on Tuesday. Vu was sentenced to 40 months in prison, Lleshaj to 35 months and Cani to 28 months. The trio will be deported after serving their sentence. Cannabis is a Class B substance in the UK and is only allowed for medicinal use. Selling and producing weed can result in up to 14 years in prison, an unlimited fine, or both. "The dismantling of this facility will have a huge impact on the broader organized crime group, potentially depriving them of millions of pounds in profit that would have been used to fund further crime and exploitation," added Pope. The NCA's investigation continues.
