Nokia signs multi-million contract with A1 Austrian Telecom
The contract lets Nokia set up the Austrian 5G network.

A1 Austria has awarded Nokia a multi-year contract. The latest move is for the telecommunications provider to focus on providing nationwide 5G network coverage. A1 Austria and Nokia Corp. are longstanding partnership companies, and the latest move is one of many agreements the two have made over the years. The terms of the agreement provide that Nokia will continue to provide 5G radio access and core network services. Sources assume the two companies will unveil the 5G core element before the end of the year. The companies have chosen to disclose the terms of the deal. The close collaboration between the two companies has led to many successes in the business world. Part of that is the collaboration where they unveiled a massive fiber optic network in Austria. This fiber optic network is still the largest that has ever existed in this country. Another project the two of them have been building several private campus networks in the country, and much more is about to happen. The current contract obliges Nokia to provide its AirScale portfolio. This is a portfolio that includes AirScale base stations, 5G RAN and the Nokia AirScale radio access products for A1 Austria. The company continues to hope for a successful pilot that will trigger the commercial roll-out of 4G and 5G network slicing. The importance of slicing and its consistency between networks is that it enables the different operators to get the most out of their network coverage. Top executives commented on the latest developments, including Nokia's President of Mobile Networks, Tommi Uiitto. The official is very pleased with the company's step to continue its long-term cooperation with A1 Austria in the 5G age. Uiitto seems to be taking a rather interesting standpoint on the recent partnership, citing it as a demonstration of the ability to deliver world-class technology in a more competitive business climate. Things seem to be going well for Nokia lately. One of the key milestones was how the company's smartphones received Android Enterprise Recommendation certification.
