The new TikTok CEO is the former CFO of ByteDance
The change at the top finally fills in the gap at TikTok.

Shou Zi Chew (Chinese name 周 受 资), who recently became ByteDance's Chief Financial Officer, will also serve as TikTok's Chief Executive Officer. Meanwhile, Vanessa Pappas, TikTok's interim boss, has been named chief operating officer, Bloomberg reports. TikTok has been without an official CEO since the last person for the post, Kevin Mayer, who was poached by Disney, stepped down amid an argument with the White House last August. At that time, Pappas, who was responsible for the company's North American operations, was appointed interim boss. If you want to refresh your memory on the horribly confusing TikTok saga, check out our comprehensive timeline. Chew, a 39-year-old Singaporean, is a new member of ByteDance, joining the company as CFO just a month ago. He was CFO of Xiaomi from 2015 to 2020, helped the immensely successful Chinese gadget company to go public and also managed international business for a while. Earlier, Reuters reported that ByteDance had discontinued Chew, suggesting the Beijing-headquartered tech company was moving towards a highly anticipated IPO. However, the company later replied that it is neither ready to go public, nor has a plan to go public. If anything, Chew's hiring only signaled that ByteDance is determined to expand globally.
