Netflix is going after users that share their accounts
Even family members would not be able to use same accounts if living in different places.

It seems like the fun is over for people who have been watching Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) for years with a borrowed account as the company plans to crack down on password sharing. It seems Netflix was aware of what was going on and now it's time to put an end to it. The company and its password host are testing a new feature that will prevent people using borrowed accounts from enjoying the content. Netflix sends a pop-up message to users who the company believes are watching with someone else's account. The message prompts people to sign up for their accounts by saying, "If you don't live with the owner of the account, you need your account to look further. These tests are designed to ensure that only authorized users are used watch through a specific account. Competition has intensified as media and tech companies focus on the industry, churn increases and the likelihood of growth flattens out, increasing subscriptions and viewership will be challenging for Netflix. In order to retain viewers and ensure viewers pay for the service, the company will restrict password sharing. It seems that sharing Netflix passwords will soon become a source of nostalgia. In its latest earnings report, the streaming giant said it has over 204 million subscribers worldwide. That's an increase of 22% or 36.5 million for this year. Approximately 73 million of these subscribers are in the company's home market, the US, suggesting that market saturation is being approached. Interestingly, it is impossible to know the number of accounts that are sharing passwords beyond the person who is paying for the account. However, studies suggest that password sharing is a widespread phenomenon, to the point that Netflix account sharing for teenagers and twenties is a rite, meaning the number of password free riders can go into the millions. Over the years Netflix has dominated the streaming sector, but cracking passwords is the only option to keep the numbers up with the increasing competition.
