Goldman Sachs to invest in major data center
The investment bank is planning to put up more than 500m USD to increase its data center capacity.

Goldman Sachs' Merchant Banking Division (GS + 1.8%) is partnering with a management team led by Scott Peterson, Head of the Data Center Industry, to create Global Compute Infrastructure LP, a newly formed global data center infrastructure platform . GS MBD is initially committed to funding up to $ 500 million in equity, primarily from its infrastructure fund, West Street Infrastructure Partners III LP, to make short term investments of ~ $ 1.5 billion in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America enable. Global Compute intends to grow through a combination of acquisitions and organic development to serve customers in regions with strong secular tailwinds and potential for significant data infrastructure growth. The Global Compute management team is led by Peterson as CEO; he was the former chief investment officer and co-founder of Digital Realty. Other members of the management team are the former co-founder of DLR, Christopher Kenney, as Chief Operating Officer and Stephen Taylor, former DLR senior manager in EMEA, who will head the European unit of Global Compute. On October 17, Global Compute agreed to acquire ATM SA, a data center and communications infrastructure business in Poland, from a group of funds managed by MCI Capital and Mezzanine Management.
