Chelsea Clinton speaks out against Cannabis

Former White House Rugrat Chelsea Clinton believes marijuana can have some therapeutic benefits, but she also thinks the herb can kill people in states where it was made legal. During a recent appearance at Youngstown State University, Clinton - campaigning on behalf of her mother, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton - told a crowd of students that "anecdotally, we have a lot of evidence" that cannabis is effective in treating epilepsy and stimulates the appetite of those undergoing chemotherapy treatment. But she then went on to say that there are still some public health concerns associated with weed consumption due to the recent deaths in Colorado. "We also now have anecdotal evidence from Colorado where some of the people who used marijuana for these purposes, the coroner believe after they died, there was drug interactions with other things they used," she said. While there is no documented evidence that marijuana has ever contributed to the death of a single person in the thousands of years it has been used by civilizations around the world, prohibitionists often dig deep into their sagging propaganda bags to try to get the average person off convince that the effects of cannabis can be both devastating and deadly. But this is the first time we've heard of marijuana potentially interacting with other drugs and leading people to their premature demise. A recent article on InhaleMD points out that while there may be some minor interactions when cannabis is consumed in conjunction with other drugs and foods, there is no evidence that these types of mixtures can be fatal. "Cannabis is not known to cause lethal interactions with other substances, including food and beverages," the article said. "In fact, compared to natural and synthetic drugs, cannabis is exceptionally gentle, with negative effects typically limited to anxiety, dry mouth, increased thirst \[and\] sore throat." The article penned by Dr. Jordan Tishler, an expert in cannabis medicine, goes on to explain that while marijuana is "not physically harmful," when mixed with alcohol, antidepressants, antihistamines, and muscle relaxants, the effects of stone can often be enhanced - which Makes the user feel more intoxicated or in a deeper state of relaxation. But it does not appear that anyone died as a direct result of mixing marijuana with other drugs, as Clinton seems to have suggested in her speech over the weekend. Using marijuana in combination with other substances is "much safer than mixing most other types of medication," the article continued. However, Chelsea Clinton took the opportunity to reiterate her mother's stance on states rights and the prosecution of more medical marijuana research. But, their comments, once again, seemed to imply that marijuana might be what the federal government claims - a dangerous drug. "We just need so much more data than we have so that people who might benefit have a chance to benefit, people who might be at risk are protected," Clinton said. "So absolutely, my mom strongly supports the need for more rigorous study and then subjecting it, like we kind of do anything else that might have a medical purpose, to get FDA approval, testing and ultimately regulation." Hillary Clinton has said for most of her campaign that she plans to remove cannabis from List I if she is elected president in November.
