Cannabis imports continue to grow in Germany
The country is continuously increasing its cannabis imports.

Germany may no longer be the largest importer of medical cannabis, but that doesn't mean the country doesn't have huge amounts of imports. The country lost its first spot to Israel earlier this month, but Germany has seen tumultuous growth since legislation was passed, according to data from Prohibition Partners. In 2018, the total German imports of medical cannabis flowers reached 3.1 tons and then doubled in 2019 to over 6.7 tons. German imports of cannabis flowers reached 4.1 tonnes in H1 2020, an increase of 63% compared to H1 2019, although not a single quarter in 2020 reached the high of Q3 2019. In Q3 2019, the country had requested an additional tonne of medical cannabis exports from the Netherlands as the country struggled with supply bottlenecks and assumed that the country's domestic production would not be available until early 2021, causing the dramatic increase in Driving imports forward. Germany now has an estimated number of registered patients using medical cannabis in Germany of around 60,000. The country is the largest European medical cannabis market and will be entirely dependent on imports to supply its market at least until the end of 2020.
