Apple Under Pressure in China
Despite US Sanctions, Huawei Shows Resilience and Success

The Chinese tech firm, Huawei, is making a rapid comeback in the smartphone industry. Recent numbers from market researchers reveal that the company increased its sales in China by an impressive 37 percent compared to the previous year. At the heart of this success is the Mate 60, Huawei's latest smartphone, which has become extremely popular. This upward trajectory signifies a major turnaround for the company following the setbacks it faced due to the US sanctions in 2019.
In contrast, Apple experienced a decline. Despite launching their latest model, the iPhone 15, in September, sales dropped by six percent, according to Canalys analysis. It seems that the allure of the iPhone 15 isn't enough to compete against the popularity of the Mate 60. Furthermore, reports suggest that the iPhone 15 is selling slower than its predecessor, the iPhone 14.
Once brought to its knees by US sanctions, Huawei now has every reason to celebrate. The firm has not only increased its sales but has also considerably boosted its market share in China. It now stands at 12.9 percent, up from 9.1 percent during the same period the previous year. Such growth in such a short time emphasizes Huawei's resilience and innovative power.
Meanwhile, a grim picture is emerging for the entire smartphone industry in China. The overall economic climate in the region is faltering, reflected in the numbers: Total smartphone sales in China decreased by three percent. The reasons could be diverse, from economic uncertainties to a potential market saturation.
Interestingly, the Canalys report indicates that, despite the setbacks for Apple and Huawei, Honor emerges as the market leader in China, boasting a substantial market share of 18 percent. Surprisingly, Oppo and Apple tie for second place, both holding a market share of 16 percent.
